Is Quran the Word of God? Part 5
From whom Muhammad got his revelations?

Last week we saw that Holy Spirit is none other than the Spirit of the almighty God and Muhammad and Angel Gabriel cannot be the Holy Spirit. Today we are going to see whether Quran is the word of God or not?

Bible tells us that all the prophets were filled with the Holy Spirit and they got revelation from God. But Hadith tells us that Muhammad was bewitched and had been affected by magic or powerful spell.

1. From whom Muhammad got his revelations:

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 490:
Narrated 'Aisha:
Magic was worked on the Prophet so that he began to fancy that he was doing a thing which he was not actually doing. One day he invoked (Allah) for a long period and then said, "I feel that Allah has inspired me as how to cure myself. Two persons came to me (in my dream) and sat, one by my head and the other by my feet. One of them asked the other, "What is the ailment of this man?" The other replied, 'He has been bewitched" The first asked, 'Who has bewitched him?' The other replied, 'Lubaid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material has he used?' The other replied, 'A comb, the hair gathered on it, and the outer skin of the pollen of the male date-palm.' The first asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, 'It is in the well of Dharwan.' " So, the Prophet went out towards the well and then returned and said to me on his return, "Its date-palms (the date-palms near the well) are like the heads of the devils." I asked, "Did you take out those things with which the magic was worked?" He said, "No, for I have been cured by Allah and I am afraid that this action may spread evil amongst the people." Later on the well was filled up with earth.

We read the same thing in Volume 8, Book 75, Number 400 where Aisha Muhammad's wife says that Allah's Apostle was affected by magic, so much that he used to think that he had done something which in fact. She also said Allah's Apostle was bewitched... (See Hadith No. 658, Vol. 7)

Hadith also tells us that Muhammad every night prayed a prayer that his devil should be driven away from him in

Book 41, Number 5036:
Narrated AbulAzhar al-Anmari:
When the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) went to his bed at night, he would say: in the name of Allah, I have laid down my side for Allah. O Allah! forgive me my sin, drive away my devil, free me from my responsibility, and place me in the highest assembly.

When Muhammad started getting revelations he became suicidal and thought to kill himself. A great fear came in his heart and he was not even sure what he was getting and from whom?

Hadith tells us in Volume 9, Book 87, Number 111: Narrated 'Aisha:
The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of good righteous (true) dreams in his sleep. He never had a dream but that it came true like bright day light. He used to go in seclusion (the cave of) Hira where he used to worship(Allah Alone) continuously for many (days) nights. He used to take with him the journey food for that (stay) and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again for another period to stay, till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him in it and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read." (The Prophet added), "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and again asked me to read, and I replied, "I do not know how to read," whereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and asked me again to read, but again I replied, "I do not know how to read (or, what shall I read?)." Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me and then released me and said, "Read: In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists). Has created man from a clot. Read and Your Lord is Most Generous...up to..... ..that which he knew not." (96.15)

Then Allah's Apostle returned with the Inspiration, his neck muscles twitching with terror till he entered upon Khadija and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and then he said, "O Khadija, what is wrong with me?" Then he told her everything that had happened and said, 'I fear that something may happen to me." Khadija said, 'Never! But have the glad tidings, for by Allah, Allah will never disgrace you as you keep good reactions with your Kith and kin, speak the truth, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guest generously and assist the deserving, calamity-afflicted ones."

Further we read that Khadija accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa and Muhammad told his story to him. Waraqa told him that it is from angel Gabriel who keeps the secret. You can see that Muhammad wasn't sure about his revelation from where he was getting this. Only Khadijah and Waraqa were giving him clues that it may be this and it may be that. Further we read that Muhammad became so disturbed that he tried to kill himself. But every time when Muhammad tried to kill himself the angel who was identified as Gabriel appear before him and said, "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Apostle in truth".

All these Hadith writings suggest that Muhammad was not getting his revelations from God but from devil. If we read the Bible we can understand that none of the Bible prophets felt suicidal or were in deep distress after meeting God ore being in the presence of God. They enjoyed the presence of God everyday in their lives. David says in Psa 16:11, "You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Moses enjoyed the presence of God and every time he came out of the presence of God, his face was shining with the glory of God not with fear or depression.

If Muhammad had seen the God of the Bible or met the real angel Gabriel, he would have been filled with the peace of God. Bible tells us about the God of the Bible as "God of peace". God gives His perfect peace to a person. He does not keep a person in delusion, confusion or in distress.
